We should take the Mona Lisa at Face Value; You have to believe it to see it; The Surgical Masque. This was a full-scale opera in three acts that made use of the entire building. The piece started in the dance studio with a mock radio interview with the author about his new book. The audience proceeded to the gallery, where they were invited to participate in a performance art laboratory. The third and largest act took place in the Lux. Accompanied by a choir, the artist as surgeon operated on a turkey as a metaphor for the Canadian participation in the creation of the first atom bomb. There was also an installation in the gallery, with Graff attending each day.
