Sangha is a meeting ground of improvisational traditions combining Indian classical rhythms, Persian and Arabic modes, and West African melodies. Sangha includes Vancouver musicians Hidayat Honari on Tar, Haman Honari on Dombek and Deft, and Gordon Grdina on Oud. A protege of Amir Koushkani, Hidayat is not only an exemplary practitioner of Persian music he is also an accomplished jazz guitarist. He and brother Haman perform traditional music with The Honari Family. Gordon Grdina, also a guitarist, plays regularly with Loose Acoustic, Grdina Trio, and Mike Weterings Band. He currently studies Arabic music with Serwan Yamolky and is a protege of jazz great Gary Peacock.
