Can we compare the philosophy of playboy with the thought of the first Epistle of John? It is surprising to note that John was wrestling with many of the same problems which Playboy confronts in the contemporary world.
1 John is polemic against all forms of Puritanism whether ancient gnosticism, 16th century legalism or 20th century prudery. One of the central themes of this book is that life in the flesh, life as physical, is good – so good in fact that it became the bearer of God’s self-disclosure of himself in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
