RADIO Rethink: Art, Sound and Transmission

RADIO Rethink: Art, Sound and Transmission. Edited by Daina Augaitis and Dan Lander.

The following text is taken from Front Magazine, vol. V, no. 5, p. 10, Spring/Summer 1994:

This long-awaited book, based on an exhibition of radio art at the Banff Centre, is more than a medium in Canada. It aims to consolidate and expand the question of radio edits and its persistence as a medium for art.

This anthology explores artists’ use of radio in the context of its history and role as a mass medium.

Contributors include Daina Augaitis, Jody Berland, Hank Bull, Margaretta D’Arcy, Frances Dyson, Leonard Fisher, Coco Fusco, Guillermo Gomez-Peña, Heidi Grundmann, Douglas Kahn, Fredrich Kittler, Tetsuo Kogawa, Robert Kozinuk, Richard Kriesche, Carol Laing, Dan Lander, Paula Levine, Rita McKeough, Christof Migone, Mary Anne Moser, Patrick Ready, Rober Racine, Kim Sawchuk, Colette Urban, Tim Westbury, Hildegard Westerkamp, Gregory Whitehead and Paul Wong.

For over 10 years, DAINA AUGAITIS has curated exhibitions of contemporary art, many of which have explored relationships between art practices and social and technological concerns. Before moving to the Walter Phillips Gallery she was curator of the Front Gallery and the Convertible Show Room. We welcome this rare return visit.
