Pumps Centre for the Arts Exhibition

Pumps was an extremely vital artists’ centre which ran from 1976 to 1980 from a former mechanical garage on Cordova Street. It presented exhibitions, performances, video and many ongoing projects. Like the Western Front, several of the artists lived in the building so a natural kinship developed. There were many shared residencies and projects, including The Gina Show, a weekly cable TV programme produced by John Anderson, and the Living Art Performance Festival (1979).
