Performance by Warren Arcan

”… I saw the sky filled with symbols. Some I knew, others I didn’t recognize. These symbols being what holds the world together” — Black Elk Speaks (paraphrased)

The following text is taken from Front Magazine, vol. V, no. 3, p. 11, January/February 1994:

Present two words: surgery and family. Look into them and see what’s inside. Use family to look into surgery, then surgery to look into family. Methods, systems, constructs. Maybe find a tumor waving happily at us from under the encephalograph. A little body impatient for the next evolutionary step. Also remembering the human body is a filter on the earth intent on cleansing and regenerating itself. We capture and strain earth water. Let’s crack it open and see what’s inside. To clean: (for carbon filters). Boil in salt water.

Warren Arcan is an Aboriginal performance artist, writer and filmmaker.
