New Orchestra Workshop is a cooperative of musicians which established itself in Vancouver to present and sustain creative music (improvisation) through the promotion of original works by its members. Formed in 1977 and following closely the developments made by organizations such as the A.A.C.M. (Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians) in Chicago and the Creative Music Foundation in New York, N.O.W. offered to the community training programs which covered elementary and advanced areas of music, integrating properties of theatre, music, poetry and visual art into a unique form of total expression. The founding members were Lisle Ellis, Don Druick, Ralph Eppel, Gregg Simpson, Paul Plimley, Paul Cram and Robert Linsley.
