Curated by Makiko Hara
Western Front and EDAM Dance co-host Japanese feminist performance artist, Tari Ito. Seven years ago, Ito was diagnosed with a neurologic disease called SMA, affecting her muscles. The speed of progression of her condition have confined her to a wheelchair, marking a necessary review of the artist’s expectations of her own body. After a four year break from performance, Ito will take part in LIVE Performance Art Biennale 2019 with the North American premiere of Before the 37 Trillion Pieces Get to Sleep, a new project that addresses the crucial reality of invisible fear of radiation in Fukushima following the March 11 Nuclear disaster. This performance marks Ito’s return to the Western Front three decades after her first performance in 1990.
Admission by sliding scale: $10/$5 for students, seniors over 65 and low-income residents. No advance tickets, entry at the door only.
LIVE Performance Biennale 2019 opening reception will follow the performance. Everyone welcome.
