A collision of elctronic and acoustic music. Granrojo is a home-grown electro-acoustic quartet featuring Coat Cooke reeds/flute, Stefan Smulovitz laptop electronics and viola, Chris Kelly laptop electronics/saxophones, and Paul Blaney bass. They employ a mix of acoustic and electronic instruments to weave complex soundscapes inspired by their early experiments, which involved creating live soundtracks for silent films. With collective credits including John Zorn, George Lewis, Eye of Newt, François Houle, Phil Haynes, Evan Parker, Vinny Golia and Hospital, Granrojo’s internationally active members are true veterans of the improvised music scene.
