Habitart

In June of 1976 the city was transformed by the United Nations Conference on Housing. Habitat Forum was a large satellite of the main conference that transformed several old airplane hangars in Jericho Park into a celebration of alternative housing and culture. Ironically, instead of ushering in a new era of ecological design, this was the last big bash for ’60s counterculture. The site was meticulously destroyed shortly thereafter. The Vancouver Art Gallery presented a series of performance events (also its last) in which Lux Radio Players presented Habitart, or How to Live with Your Just Desserts. In addition, Western Front was also commissioned by the City to produce a gala evening of performance art at the Commodore Ballroom to end the festival.
