“My artistic practice is essentially photography and video based. It has extended to performance, film and installation. I am currently exploring projection based installations in space specific contexts.” —SS
Escaliers / Staircase is a video and sculptural installation which reflects on one of the canons of architecture – a winding staircase – to wit, the transition space between two levels, one temporarily free of the hierarchy, the link between the divine and the terrestrial (Jacob’s ladder). Alluding to the greater questions of existence, on a micro scale, I am interested in the quotidian spaces of escape from establishment, structure, and time.”
Sarah Shamash will be in residence at the Western Front from the end of August to October 10th. During the residency she will produce video for the Escaliers / Staircase piece and construct a prototype of the installation.
