Sonic Boom the explosive four-day new music festival of supersonic sound featuring the work of 25 BC composers returns for his 8th year May 3 through 6. with instrumentation ranging from bagpipes, mandolin, accordion, voice to violin, the four evenings will explode with musical styles from electroacoustics to chamber.
Composers to date include: Michael O’Neill, Rita Ueda, Doug Smith, Paul Steenhuisen, Janet Berman, DB Boyko, Lïnda Nessel, Lowell Morris, Darren Copeland, Lindsay J. McDonald, Randy Pelles, Phil Thompson, Susan Frykberg, Warren Copeland, Mark Baril, Bruce Neilsen, Chris Kovarik, Daniel Ingram, Grace Jong-tun Lee, Mark Armanini, Sylvia Rickard, Derek Wong, Jacqui Leggatt, The Vancouver Moving Theatre and Balzac.
As a warm-up to Sonic Boom, The Live Electroacoustic Arts Performance Society (LEAPS) will present Women’s LEAP Day on May 2nd at 7:30 pm. Women’s LEAP Day will be in two parts: a circle of discussion on women and electroacoustic music led by Andra McCartney; and later, a performance of works by women composers which include: Jan Berman, Susan Frykberg, Kathy Kennedy, Sue Mcgowan, Rita Ueda and Hildegard Westerkamp.
