Zainub Verjee: Residency

The following text is taken from Front Magazine, vol. VI, no. 2, p. 15, November/December 1994:

Zainub is producing a video installation which will consist of four channels to be viewed on eight monitors. In November she will be editing material shot during her recent trip to Africa and India. The installation addresses the migration of the Gujarati community from India to Africa, and then to the West. It explores the way a community uses time and space for communication among its members, and with the outside natural and social worlds. The installation will consist of layers of visual and aural textures, carrying the viewer on a journey particular to the installation itself. This is a story of a hundred years which will be told in contemporary art media.
