VOICE OVER MIND FESTIVAL view all events
New Yorkʼs Shelley Hirsch relentlessly mines her life experiences and embraces archetypal personas to create story songs and alchemical compositions. She pays musical respect to the eccentric American composer Jerry Hunt, some of which can be heard on Song Drapes featured on John Zornʼs Tzadik label. Shelleyʼs playlist also includes film scores of Bernard Herrmann, notable for soundtracks to Citizen Kane, Psycho, Vertigo, and Taxi Driver. Herrmannʼs scores provide counterpoint to hallucinatory excursions floating effortlessly out of the spoken/sung voice and into pure Hirschian singing.
Vancouverʼs Veda Hille performs new works from an upcoming project with Leaky Heave Circus Peter Panties, anecdotal songs drawn Craigslist postings created in collaboration with writer/radio personality Bill Richardson entitled Do You Want What I Have Got and a Vampire Weekend cover.
