Western Front Curator in Residence Shama Khanna will present a series of films, writing and research related to her ongoing project Flatness. The Flatness project extends from the thematic programme of artists’ moving image works curated by Khanna at Oberhausen International Short Film Festival in May 2013 entitled, ‘Flatness: Cinema after the Internet’. Returning to the small screen, in July 2013 Khanna launched the website flatness.eu presenting many of the works from the festival, (including programmes by sub-curators Oliver Laric, Anthea Hamilton and Ed Atkins), and research and writing about them, online.
Through commissioning new work by artists, technologists and writers, such as Robert M Ochshorn, Isobel Harbison and Mercedes Bunz, flatness.eu aims to test the possibilities and limitations of the web as a creative site and space for viewing. The website programme is punctuated with screenings and discussion events at venues including Chisenhale Gallery, London and Palais de Tokyo, Paris and Manchester University as opportunities to engage in feedback with artists, technologists and the audiences around them.
Shama Khanna is an independent curator and writer based in London.
