Concert by Lay Tuan Tan (prepared piano, piano) and Darren Copeland (diffusion) at Western Front.
The following text is taken from Front Magazine vol. IV, no. 5, p. 11, May/June 1993:
New music in The Infrared!!! Featuring the Electro-Acoustic music of Darren Copeland and performances of Contemporary Piano Music by Lay Tuan Tan. Sponsored by the School for Contemporary Arts – Simon Fraser University.
Darren Copeland is a Vancouver composer who is focused exclusively on the creation of the tape works that explore environmental sounds, and on the images that they evoke in the listeners mind. His works have a period in New Music America 1990, the past three local Sonic Boom Festivals, and all of the conference gatherings of the Canadian Electro-Acoustic community. This concert will premiere Copeland’s latest work, Night Camera. In it, listeners will find themselves “seeing” the sounds as much as hearing them.
Lay Tuan Tan is an award-winning graduate of University of South Carolina and the New England Conservatory where she specialized in the music of Schoenberg, Messiaen, Berg and Cage. Lay Tuan Tan currently lives in Vancouver and is a member of Standing Wave, a quartet dedicated to the music of Vancouver composers.
