Western Front is pleased to announce a screening of selected films by the London-based artist Daria Martin, presented in collaboration with the Catriona Jeffries Gallery. Since the early 2000s, Martin has produced a significant body of work which brings together the artist’s longstanding interest in the intersection between historical modes of avant-garde dance, performance, sculpture and theatre with the absorptive and experimental capacity of 16mm film.
The program includes In the Palace (2000), Birds (2001), Soft Materials (2004) Loneliness and the Modern Pentathlon (2004-05) and Wintergarden (2005) and are being shown in Vancouver for the first time on the occasion of the group exhibition People Thing Enter Exit at Catriona Jeffries, in which Martin’s film Minotaur (2008) is currently installed at Catriona Jeffries Gallery until December 3rd.
Daria Martin (b. 1973, San Francisco, lives and works in London, UK) has a forthcoming solo exhibition at Galleria Raffaella Cortese, Milan (2011). Recent solo exhibitions include Minotaur, MCA Chicago; New Museum, New York; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2009-2010); Maureen Paley, London (2008), PERFORMA07, New York (2007). A monograph on her work was published by JRP Ringier in 2006.
